Education Authority Launches Trainee Youth Support Worker Scheme
Monday, 15th April 2019
The Education Authority (EA) has launched a Trainee Youth Support Worker Scheme for young adults aged 18 to 25 years old which aims to support those who wish to work within the Youth Service through the delivery of youth work training and direct experience working in a youth work setting.
The scheme will provide successful applicants with the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge with support from EA tutors, a placement supervisor and a scheme coordinator whilst acquiring experience in the delivery of youth work in centres across Northern Ireland.
Successful applicants will be paid per hour attended on training courses and during placement within a youth work setting. EA will also provide transport to attend all the training elements of the programme as well as covering residential costs for the Youth Support Worker Qualification.
Participants will receive training on the following course; Youth Support Worker Qualification, Child Protection Awareness, Moving ahead with CRED, Emergency First Aid and two skills based courses
EA Head of Youth Services, Stephen Dallas, said:
“This innovative programme will provide young people, aged between 18-25 years, with the opportunity to access training over an 18 week period developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes to equip them to work as a youth support worker across a range of youth settings.
“Trainees will earn as they learn, complete leadership training and will work on two evenings per week in an exciting local youth project not only gaining experience but accessing support from a professionally qualified youth worker.
“This is an excellent opportunity to embark upon a new career which is rewarding, fulfilling and gives you the opportunity to contribute positively to society working alongside young people who need us most.”
EA will be hosting a number of information sessions to provide more information to participants interested in applying for the scheme. Information sessions will take place on the following dates:
